Welcome to Doggone DIY!
For Lady’s 3rd birthday, I found awesome inspiration for a peanut butter and pumpkin dog cake from Love From the Oven. After making just a few of my own modifications, I had the perfect recipe for a delicious and healthy pup birthday cake. Plus, the results delighted Lady and her fans across the internet.
Want to bake this cake for your own pup’s special day…or just because they’ve been a good boy/girl? Here are the step-by-step instructions to help you create a tasty treat that your pup will hardly be able to resist.
What You’ll Need
For the cake:
- 1/4 Cup All-Natural Peanut Butter
- 1/2 Cup Pumpkin Puree
- 1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
- 1/2 Teaspoon Bakin Soda
- 1/2 Cup Applesauce
- 1 Egg
For the Frosting:
- 1/4 Cup All-Natural Peanut Butter
- 1/4 Cup Plain Greek Yogurt
*Please Note* For my cake, I had to double the above ingredients to make enough cake mix to fill my mold. The above recipe is good for your average 8″ round cake. You can adjust the amount of ingredients to fulfill how much cake mix you need.

Written Directions for Lady’s Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Cake
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2: In a large bowl, combine flour and baking soda.
Step 3: In another bowl, mix the peanut butter, vegetable oil, applesauce, and pumpkin puree. Once combined, mix in the egg.
Step 4: Combine the wet and dry ingredients.
Step 5: Transfer the cake mix to your pan/mold and bake until complete. Larger cakes like mine take about 40 minutes to bake. Smaller cakes are about 25-30 minutes.
Step 6: Once thoroughly baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow to cool completely.
Step 7: Mix your frosting ingredients in a bowl and add to your cake however you see fit!
Step 8: Get creative and decorate your cake! I used dog biscuits to spell out Lady’s name.
Step 9: Enjoy!
