Whether the winter season has sprinkled snow across your sidewalks or the summer sun heats up the pavement, you know it’s time to break out the doggie booties. However, if you’re anything like me, you absolutely DESPISE those little contraptions.
They never seem to fit Lady right, they fall off after she takes just a few steps, and even worse, Lady hates them just as much as I do. At the same time, however, I feel uneasy about her going on our walks after it has snowed, the roads have been salted, or the pavement is too hot due to how harsh it can be on her paw pads. What’s a dog mom to do?
Luckily for us, the answer to all of our woes has been released into the pet industry! Walkee Paws, officially launched on October 28th, 2018, is the world’s first dog legging and serves as the end of “street feet.”
These waterproof leggings are comfortable, easy to put on, and protect your pup’s precious little paws from harmful chemicals in the road and natural elements such as rain, snow, and heat. No more struggling to put boots on your dog or worrying about him/her tracking dirt and germs into your house. Just slip on Walkee Paws and off you go. It’s the pet industry’s “better bootie!”
The Walkee Paws Story: An Interview With the Mastermind
In 2018, I had the opportunity to speak with Lisa Baronoff, the creator of Walkee Paws. During our talk, I quickly discovered that her idea for the product stemmed from the very same problems that I faced nearly every winter with Lady.
Lisa Baronoff is the mother of two children and two dogs living in New York City. She frequently takes her dogs out for walks in the Manhattan but became concerned about their paws picking up dirt and chemicals from the pavement.
Like many of us, Baronoff turned to your typical dog booties, and came back to the drawing board very disappointed. “The biggest problem in terms of dog booties is they always seem to fall off,” says Baronoff. “They have to be tight around the ankles to stay on. I knew there had to be a better way.”
Thus, the idea for Walkee Paws was born! Using an old pair of pantyhose, Baronoff cut little leggings for her dog and made them connect over his back so they stayed in place. The versatility of the pantyhose made them act as a sling that helped keep them in place. Plus, her dog was completely comfortable!
Once she realized she had a great idea for a pet product on her hands, she and her team immediately went to work to create four-way stretch fabric and a tightening tool for maximum comfort.
After several trials and attempts to invent a material thin enough for pets to feel the ground beneath their paws yet strong enough to withstand water, pavement, snow, and general wear-and-tear, the final Walkee Paws product was launched.
Walkee Paws Reviews
Although the product hasn’t been on the market for too long, Walkee Paws has already received raving reviews!
“I’ve had people come up to me in the streets and ask about Walkee Paws while I’m walking my dog,” Baronoff admits. “People will also walk by and say ‘Oh my gosh, that dog is wearing shoes!” Those who have tried the product for themselves have also left fantastic reviews online. Here’s one from Amazon:
“We have tried numerous brands of dog booties over the years but our pup did not seem happy or comfortable with any of our purchases. I’m proud to say that Walkee Paws is the answer! We started using these dog leggings a few months ago and the entire family, including our pup, loves them.
To my surprise, they are really easy to put on. Simply slip on to each paw and tighten up the strap. The strap is a fantastic feature since it helps to keep the leggings secure, without their paws falling or slipping out (which we experienced many times using dog boots). The best part is our canine seems genuinely comfortable and happy wearing the leggings. He can move freely and walk comfortably. They are also super soft and stretchy. No wonder he likes them so much!”

“A great friend of mine purchased a pair of Walkee Paws before the launch and messaged me saying that almost everyone who saw it in New York asked her where she got it,” adds Baronoff. “They were even photographing the label so they would remember. People are really loving it!”
